Man arrested after reports of sexual assault in Hartcliffe

A man has been arrested on suspicion of entering properties in Hartcliffe this morning.

Two calls were made to Avon and Somerset Police between 6.20am and 6.40am in Hartcliffe. On both occasions the man was disturbed, but officers received reports of attempted sexual assault before he fled the scene.

A third member of the public then called the police regarding an intruder at 9.15am in nearby Mowcroft Road. The description of the offender provided to police was similar to the suspect from the earlier incidents.

However, the man again fled the scene once disturbed.

Officers were dispatched to the scenes to search for the man and they were supported by the NPAS helicopter.

A man was later arrested at a bus stop in Bristol city centre in connection to the incidents and is currently in custody awaiting interview. Enquiries, including house-to-house and CCTV, are under way, and additional reassurance patrols will be carried out.

A property on Blackthorn Road has been cordoned off by police, with a vehicle parked outside the entrance.

Previously it was reported that Blackthorn Road and Maynard Road were both closed by the police with several vehicles parked up along the roads.

But as the morning went on, one house on Blackthorn Road was sectioned off and the roads were re-opened.

There was a police helicopter sighted over the Pigeonhouse Stream open space behind Blackthorn Road throughout the morning.
