c2c issues warning as Royal Mail workers to strike this week

A train operating company has warned its customers of potential disruption as Royal Mail workers are set to strike.

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) has called on its members who collect, sort and deliver parcels and letters for Royal Mail to take strike action on Thursday and Friday (September 8 and 9).

On days when strike action is taking place, Royal Mail has vowed to deliver as many Special Delivery and Tracked24 parcels as possible but it will not be delivering letters.

Now c2c has warned this could affect the delivery of any train tickets or smartcards which have been ordered from its website.

A c2c spokesman said: “If you have ordered any train tickets or a Smartcard from our website, the delivery of these may be affected by Royal Mail strike action.”

People are told to post their items as early as possible in advance of the strike dates this week.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “We’re really sorry for the disruption that this strike action is likely to cause to you.

“We want to reassure you we will do everything we can to minimise disruption and get our services back to normal as quickly as possible.”
