DHL Express Canada orders 110 battery electric medium duty trucks

DHL Express Canada has announced it has ordered 110 battery electric medium trucks that will be put into operation by the end of the year in Montreal and other locations around the country.

The express delivery giant hasn’t revealed the manufacturer of the vehicles, though it does say that they are Class 6 – at the upper end of what’s classed as ‘medium duty’ in the US and Canada. They have a range of 290km (180 miles) per charge using batteries that have 252kWh of capacity.

The first 10 electric trucks will be put into operation in Montreal by the end of the year. As well as Montreal, they will also be put into operation in Ottawa, Hamilton, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver among other cities.

Overall, the investment will be worth 15 million Canadian dollars that will also be spent on providing depot charging for the vehicles.

“We have ambitious plans to invest in electric vehicles as part of our focus on sustainability,” said Andrew Williams, CEO of DHL Express Canada. “The introduction of these electric trucks into our country is a huge step forward toward achieving our clean transport goals,” he noted.
