When are the Royal Mail strike dates in 2022? All you need to know as 19 days of strike action planned

Today, the Communication Workers Union (CWU) has called on its vast number of members, from collectors and sorters to delivery drivers, to take further national strike action from the end of this week.

The proposed dates of the strikes are: Friday, September 30, Saturday, October 1, Thursday, October 13, Thursday, October 20, Tuesday, October 25, and Monday, November 25. Further dates have been announced also by the CWU for functional strike action which will impact different aspects of the Royal Mail’s supply chain.

Processing, distribution, international shipping, collections and admin will suffer from the strike on November 3, 9, 15 and 24, as well as on Thursday, December 1. Deliveries will be affected on November 4, 10, 16 and 25, as well as December 2. The CWU have also announced that there will be disruption to the Royal Mail network on November 2, 8, 14, 23 and 30.

In a statement on the Royal Mail’s website, it says: “We’re sorry this strike action is likely to cause you some disruption. We will be working to get our services back to normal as quickly as possible.”

The statement followed with information on how the strike days will affect the public, stating “We will deliver as many Special Delivery and Tracked24 parcels as possible” and will “prioritise the delivery of COVID test kits and medical prescriptions wherever possible”.

The statement on the Royal Mails website also notes that no letters will be delivered on strike days unless they are “special delivery”. The Royal Mail have advised how to avoid suffering from the strikes, recommending that to avoid any complications over the period an individual should “post your items as early as possible in advance of the strike dates.

“Postboxes and Post Office’s will be functioning and collected by Royal Mail staff, however collections will be less frequent on strike days”.
