The Princess of Wales could wear a tiara for the first time in several years as King Charles prepares for an important event. Kate Middleton is best known for her elegant coats and stylish dresses, but when it comes to big occasions she never disappoints with show-stopping jewellery.

Kate may have the opportunity to don such an item as Charles welcomes the the President and First Lady of South Africa to the UK. The itinerary for President Cyril Ramaphosa and his wife Tshepo Motsepe has yet to be released, but a state dinner is likely.

It would be here that Kate could wear a stunning headpiece, as well as Queen Consort Camilla. It would be the first time she publicly worn a tiara since before the pandemic, when in-person royal engagements were put on hold.

The last state visit to the UK was in 2019 when then US president Donald Trump visited the country with former first lady Melania Trump. At the state dinner during that visit, Kate wore the gorgeous Lover’s Knot tiara with a gown by Alexander McQueen.

But she wore again tiara a few months later for the the annual diplomatic reception at Buckingham Palace, which has been cancelled for the past two years due to the Covid pandemic, reports The Mirror. Again it was the lover’s knot tiara, which she paired with another Alexander McQueen dress.

Meanwhile, it is understood the South African state visit was in the early stages of being planned before the Queen’s death in September. The King has visited South Africa on several occasions since his first tour of the country, which included Pretoria, Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town, in 1997.

His last trip was in 2011, when along with the Queen Consort, then the Duchess of Cornwall, he carried out engagements including a speech on climate change at the University of Cape Town and a visit to the Black Rhino Range expansion project in Phinda Game Reserve.

They also attended the Nelson Mandela Foundation, where they were received by Graca Machel, the former president’s widow. Charles was also present at Mr Mandela’s funeral, which took place in 2013, remarking the world would be a “poorer place without him” and that he was owed “an enormous debt of gratitude for what he’s managed to achieve with his life”.

The King and the Queen Consort, then the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, also welcomed President Jacob Zuma at the start of a state visit in the UK in 2010. Mr Ramaphosa’s visit will take place from Tuesday, November 22 to Thursday, November 24 and he will be hosted by the King and Queen Consort at Buckingham Palace.
