Tesco recruiting seasonal staff across Surrey to help them ‘make Christmas merrier’

As Surrey’s supermarkets gear up for the busy Christmas period, recruitment is well underway for seasonal employees to help them cope with the extra demand. Tesco, the UK’s biggest supermarket chain, is among those looking for extra staff and is advertising for roles in its stores throughout the county.

Various shift patterns are available, including hours that are mostly overnight or in the early morning, with the company’s recruitment site saying that precise times are “to be discussed”. The site does not specify the hourly wage for its festive staff – describing the rate only as “competitive” – but the company confirmed this week that the basic hourly rate for Tesco staff is increasing to £10.30 in November, so temporary workers may expect to earn a similar amount.

Describing the available positions, the company website says: “A festive role means variety, full of everyday challenges, with no day being the same – but that’s one of the things that makes it so exciting. From serving customers to picking orders for home delivery or filling the store with our products, you’ll meet great people, learn new skills and be part of a specialist and diverse team where everyone is welcome.”

The site says that successful candidates will be those who are team players, are great at communicating, and a desire to learn new skills. The role’s benefits include paid holiday, a 10% discount card for shopping in Tesco stores, and life assurance. Many of the advertised roles have an application deadline of October 17, so it is worth applying as soon as you can via the recruitment site.
