The Crown Goes Too Far Depicting “Tampongate” Call Between Charles and Camilla?

British royal family news reveals that Netflix’s The Crown is going there, they will depict a lascivious call between Charles and Camilla in which he expressed his desire to be her, erm, menstruation device. How to say—there is no delicate way—Charles wished to be Camilla’s tampon so as to be as close to her as possible. This is the kind of cringe stuff kids never want to hear coming from their parental figures, and it will be especially mortifying for Harry and William when it is publicly blasted for all the world to see.

The call was reported on years ago, and Netflix bosses are getting heat for depicting the crass convo from 1989. “The call between then-Prince Charles and Camilla, which has been widely referred to as ‘tampongate’, was taped by an amateur radio enthusiast who claimed to have stumbled across the pair’s conversation while moving between audio channels,” according to the Daily Mail.

King Charles was heard to say that he wanted to be, “reincarnated as the tampon brand tampax, and told Camilla that he wanted to ‘live inside’ her.” Not sure what to say about that at this point. Perhaps nothing would be best, but Netflix thinks otherwise.

How do we know this audacious declaration is true? “The audio recording along with a transcript of the six-minute call was sold to a tabloid and published.”

It will be cold comfort to the parties involved, but The Telegraph reports that the small screen depiction will be rendered in a sympathetic light, “in a bid to show affection between Charles and Camilla.”

Sorry, but there is no way this scene won’t be snortably laughable. Charles’ lame attempt at sweet talk is ludicrous and no woman could possibly think the notion he floats to be romantic.

Royal Family News – The Royals Will Be Derided

At least one actor involved in the production, Josh O’Connor, said that he would not be down to film the infamous scene. Josh played young Prince Charles in seasons 3 and 4 of The Crown.

He told SiriusXM in 2020, “When they offered me the role, one of my first questions was – I say questions, I think it was pretty much a statement – We are not doing the tampon phone call.”

He added that the show, “was my one chance for my parents to see something [I’ve acted in] with no shame and there’s no way I was going to scuttle that by talking about tampons on Netflix.”

Dominic West is the lucky actor who does get to portray Charles in tampongate. How does he feel about depicting tampongate? He told Entertainment Weekly: “What’s really [clear now] is how invasive and disgusting was the press’s attention to it, that they printed it out verbatim and you could call a number and listen to the actual tape. I think it made me extremely sympathetic towards the two of them and what they’d gone through.” Tell us what you think royal fans!
