An Essex supermarket has displayed a beautiful poppy dress as one of many ways it is marking Remembrance Day. The dress, which is at Morrisons on Canvey Island, has been made by students from Cornelius Vermuyden school.
It has been created from green foliage, scattered with red poppies, and the dress also has white angel wings attached. Displayed in the store next to a silhouette of a soldier, there is also a sign that reads: “Lest we forget… we will remember them.” The dress is just one way that the store and the local community are marking Armistice Day.
Friday (November 11), was the official Remembrance Day, however, Remembrance Sunday – the day events typically happen – is on Sunday, November 13. Across Essex events have been and will be taking place to commemorate those who have died whilst serving for their country.

As well as having the beautiful display, Morrisons has been selling poppies to raise money for the Royal British Legion. On Friday it also held a two minutes silence after having The Last Post played live.
On Sunday there are other events happening on the island as well as around Essex to mark the day. On Canvey, there will be a service of remembrance at The Paddocks Hall on Long Road starting from 10.40am, followed by a parade by the Royal British Legion from the memorial.
