Tim Farron presents Save Sedbergh Post Office to Parliament

SOUTH Lakes MP Tim Farron presented a petition with over a thousand signatures to stop Royal Mail from closing Sedbergh Delivery Office to Parliament.

Currently, Sedbergh Post Office receives a third of its income from renting the delivery office out to Royal Mail.

There are fears that moving the delivery office threatens the viability of the post office, and the outreaches it runs in Endmoor, Dent and Barbon.

The campaign was launched by Mr Farron and local councillors Hazel Hodgson, Ian Mitchell and Suzie Pye back in September.

Last week, Mr Farron met with representatives from Royal Mail and urged them to back down over their plans.

He said: “I’m massively grateful to everyone who has signed the petition calling for Sedbergh Delivery Office to be saved.

“Our local post offices in Sedbergh, Endmoor, Dent and Barbon are massively important services – it would be a tragedy if they were forced to close as a result of this cloth-eared move.”

Royal Mail spokesperson responded: “While we have looked into the possibility of transferring services from our Sedbergh Delivery Office, no final decision has been made. There are no current plans for the Sedbergh Delivery Office to close.”
