SAS Who Dares Wins hardman Jason Fox falls for Royal Mail scam

Jason Fox has issued a warning after he fell for a Royal Mail text message scam. The SAS Who Dares Wins star, 46, is warning people not to fall for the same mistake.

He said: “I received a text, purportedly from the Royal Mail, informing me that there was a parcel waiting for me and I had to pay £2 to release it. I was in a rush and supplied my bank details, only later realising it was a scam, and lost £100 in the process.”

He said: “Now, every time I get a text, phone call, or have to share my card details, I make sure I stop everything else I’m doing. I give it my full attention and really think about what I’m being asked to do. Pretending to be a voice of authority or offering something that seems too good to be true are all pressure tactics which fraudsters use to encourage you to fall for their scam.”

Pauline Smith, head of Action Fraud, said previously: “The festive season is an expensive time for many of us. It’s natural for shoppers to get caught up in the excitement of Black Friday deals, and rush into making a quick purchase online to bag a bargain.

“Unfortunately, Christmas will come early for criminals, who see this as an ideal opportunity to take advantage of us with the tempting promise of bogus cheap deals.

“I urge shoppers to be cautious of where and who they’re buying from. Our figures show that most scams last year involved mobile phones and electronics, so always shop with official retailers and don’t be enticed by deals that seem too good to be true. Where possible, use a credit card when shopping online as this will offer you more protection if anything goes wrong.”
