23 nostalgic scenes of Blackpool Post Offices and Royal Mail workers who sorted and delivered our letters in days gone by

Like banks, pubs and libraries – the places which held communities together – many of our post offices have disappeared from our towns.

It was once the only way to communicate, other than by phone, but the age of email and cost cuts saw the gradual demise of post offices including Blackpool’s most popular of all – Abingdon Street. Our archived photos remind us of the post offices we all used in times past, as well as a focus on the Royal Mail workers who sorted the mail and delivered it. It’s incredible to see the volume of mail in the sorting office, one photo was taken at Christmas in 1987. It was probably all Christmas cards…
