Scots who are waiting for Christmas deliveries may be have to wait longer as Yodel is the latest courier to confirm issues with parcels just days after DPD announced delays.
Amid the busiest time of year for deliveries, the company announced that depots were behind schedule, impacting a long list of Scottish postcodes. Yodel has said deliveries could arrive up to 48 hours late.
A statement on its website read: “As we get closer to Christmas Day, our team are working really hard across the country to deliver all parcels within our network. However, it may take us a couple of extra days to get your parcels to you in a few areas.”
Last week, DPD announced it was suspending next-day deliveries in certain areas across the UK, as on-going Royal Mail strikes have placed mounting pressure on third party companies.
A DPD statement said: “While the service is unaffected in most areas, we have today temporarily suspended next-day deliveries to around 5 per cent of postcodes in the UK.
“The expected delays of 24 to 48 hours and the postcodes impacted are shown on our website. Where delays do occur, we update the parcel recipient directly where our customers have provided us with their contact details.
“Any delays at this time of year are hugely regrettable and while the underlying issues here are outside of our control, we would wish to reassure retailers and parcel recipients that our team is doing everything possible to minimise the impact on next-day deliveries.”

Delivery companies are extra busy this year, as Royal Mail workers have been striking in the lead up to Christmas due to disputes concerning pay and redundancies.
Last month, the Communications Workers Union (CWU) announced 10 days of industrial action would take place in the weeks before the holiday.
As disputes are still unresolved, Royal Mail have also confirmed further two days of strike action on December 23 and 24, just days before the holiday.
Because of this, many people have decided to select separate delivery companies when ordering items, which has put heavy strain on the couriers, creating a heavy back log and resulting in delays.
