Union accuses Royal Mail of most brutal attack on workers for decades | Business

The head of the union locked in an industrial dispute with Royal Mail has accused bosses of deliberately running down the company’s universal service and launching the “most brutal attack” on any group of workers in Britain for decades.

Appearing before MPs on the Commons business, energy and industrial strategy select committee today, Dave Ward, the general secretary of the Communication Workers Union (CWU), said it was a “fight for the future of every postal worker’s job, for their terms, their conditions, their pay, and the future of the services that Royal Mail provides to the public”.

He was speaking amid a long-running disagreement between Royal Mail and the union, which represents more than 100,000 workers and staged 18 days of strikes last year, including
