WH Smith Cyberattack: Cyber attack plagues WH Smith, hackers access employees data

High street retailer WH Smith has stated that there was cyber attack targeting company’s key employment data. The retail major said that hackers have accessed data containing information pertaining to current and former employees, according to a Sky News report.

However, the company has assured that customer accounts and customer database were not compromised as these details were on separate systems which has remained unaffected, the report says.

The cyber attack did not affect the trading activities of the company, the company has stated.

A probe has been initiated into the matter.

WHI Smith said that once it was aware of the incident, an investigation was launched and special support services were engaged. The company also put in place incident response plans, according to the report.

The retailer stated that company has taken the issue of cyber attack seriously. The company has also said that it would support the employees who have been affected by the cyber attack.

Earlier, Royal Mail’s international postal service were affected by cyber attacks. In January, retailer JD Sports claimed that important details such as addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers of 10 million people were stolen, as per the report.
