Royal Mail responds to plea to Ofcom to solve delivery issues in Nuneaton

Royal Mail has responded to a plea made to Ofcom to solve delivery issues in Nuneaton. As we reported in our newsletter, Nuneaton’s MP Marcus Jones complained to the regulator after being contacted by a ‘significant number of constituents’ about not having mail for weeks – or just once a week.

This is something CoventryLive has been made aware of with issues most recently including examples of mail not being delivered in Vernons Lane and parts of the Galley Common area. Mr Jones asked Ofcom to use its powers to force Royal Mail to take action to ensure that householders received their post.

He also wanted to make sure that local postal workers are given the support and capacity to do their jobs. There have been suggestions made that the workforce locally is low in numbers.

This is something that Royal Mail reportedly refutes. Previously it said that service locally has been hit by high levels of staff illness and the company insists this is still the case.

In a statement, a Royal Mail spokesperson has now said: “Deliveries in Nuneaton are currently taking place six days a week when there is mail to be delivered. Some delays have occurred due to a high level of sickness absence, and we are very sorry for any inconvenience caused. On occasions when a particular local delivery route experiences delays, we rotate deliveries to prioritise that route the next day, so that no customers should experience delays for more than one day.

“In the Galley Common area, we experienced some transitional problems as it is a new development, and have taken steps to ensure no further issues. We are again very sorry for any inconvenience caused.

“Anyone who has concerns over the delivery of their mail should contact our customer service team on 03457 740 740 or via our website at www.royalmail.com.”
