Oxford hotel mark coronation with royal-themed afternoon tea

The coronation-themed celebratory treat at the Mercure Oxford Hawkwell House Hotel was inspired by King Charles’ favourite aromatic tea, Darjeeling.

Residents and guests will be able to tuck into specially created Pimm’s royale and a choice of classic British treats including finger sandwiches, scones, patisseries, cake and teas.

A special coronation cake will form the centrepiece of all afternoon teas between May 1 and 14.

Visitors can enjoy the afternoon tea for £20.23 per person, or Pimm’s Royale for £30.

Hawkwell House general manager, Nick Jefford said: “The coronation will be a time of joy and celebration for the whole country and enjoying a thoroughly British royal afternoon tea is a lovely way to mark the occasion.

“Simon our head chef has created a bespoke royal afternoon tea with some wonderful special touches that people can enjoy in our relaxed home from home setting. We’re looking forward to welcoming Oxfordshire residents to join us and celebrate this unique occasion in style.”

The 77-bed hotel recently underwent a £3.5 million refurbishment.

Hawkwell House is located just a short walk from Iffley Lock on the River Thames and St Mary The Virgin Church Hawkwell House.

It is just three miles from Oxford rail station and is close to Oxford’s southern bypass road.
