Queen Camilla may have ‘told Princess Charlotte off’ at Queen’s funeral

Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral took place on September 19, 2022, in Westminster Abbey, which was attended by Queen Camilla, Kate Middleton, and many other members of the Royal Family.

Also in attendance were Kate and William’s two eldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

At the procession which took place after the church service, Princess Charlotte could be seen turning around to look at Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, a moment which was posted on TikTok by the user @the.royal.watcher.

Queen Camilla, who was standing beside the Princess, appeared to then gesture to the Princess of Wales to get Charlotte to stop talking, although this is not confirmed.

Judi James, a professional body language expert, spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk to explain what the Queen Consort was trying to convey at that moment.

The body language expert claimed: “This is difficult to call. Camilla stands clutching her bag with both hands, looking away, until little Charlotte seems to turn and chat beside but slightly behind her.

“Camilla retains the same unsmiling facial expression but gradually rotates and her hand, with what looks like a pointed finger, seems to gesticulate towards the smiling Charlotte.

“We can’t see who Camilla’s eye contact connects with and without Kate’s response it’s hard to pin down the moment, which could be misleading.”

However, Judi argued that if the Queen Consort was gesturing to Kate to tell Charlotte off, this would be “unnecessary”.

She explained: “If Camilla is telling Charlotte off it would probably be unnecessary, as Charlotte is the royal child who seems to be the keeper of protocol at big events, keeping her brothers in check most of the time.”

For instance, at the Platinum Jubilee and the Coronation, Charlotte was seen keeping her younger brother Prince Louis, five, well-behaved when her mother could not.

At the Jubilee, Louis received admirers from all over the world with his endearing antics as a young royal child.

Judi also noted that Camilla telling off Charlotte could be “controversial” for a key reason.

She opined: “Also, as step-granny rather than granny it would be a controversial act.”

The body language expert claimed that the relationship between Charlotte and her step-granny seems “relaxed” from the photographs and video footage that are available online.

Judi noted: “On the plus side, there have been sightings of Charlotte looking totally relaxed and even affectionate with Camilla during poses for the King’s 70th birthday.

“Therefore, it is doubtful if there is a tendency for Queen Camilla to tell Princess Charlotte off in public.”
