Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh is King Charles ‘secret weapon’

King Charles is famously relying on a slimmed-down monarchy, and there’s no doubt that the Duchess of Edinburgh is right at the heart of his plans for the future, a royal expert has claimed.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told OK magazine the mother-of-two has the ‘common touch’ thanks to her her ‘normal life’ before marrying into the royal family.

And certainly her philanthropic efforts haven’t gone unnoticed by King Charles, as she’s been dubbed an asset among senior royals as well as his ‘secret weapon’.

‘It is so much more evident now that Sophie is a key member of the list of working royals,’ Jennie said. ‘I think people have really taken her into their hearts, especially after she showed her obvious grief at losing Prince Philip and the Queen.’

The expert adds that the bond between the duchess and her in-laws is a deep one.

The former PR girl was a close close ally of the Queen following the death of her husband, with the two regularly enjoying a spot of horse riding and movies together.

Jennie says her perceived ‘common touch’ comes as a result of the normal life she enjoyed before marrying the reigning monarch’s  youngest sibling.

She added: ‘Sophie is absolutely one of the new female stars of the show – elegant, engaging and empathetic’.

Sophie, who’s been married to Prince Edward for 24 years, was also viewed by the late Queen as The Firm’s safest pair of hands.

The senior royal is is the patron of over 70 charities and organisations, including Childline, and was recently spotted out and about putting her best foot forward at the Shooting Star Children’s Hospice in London.

She was said to have ‘beamed’ as she got creative with children with an arts and crafts session during her visit.

Sophie read to the children and has even joined in with decorating biscuits during her previous visits.
