Dawn Bloomfield has been receiving multiple missives from the energy company every day for around a month.
They normally come five or six at a time, although one day the postie pushed more than 10 through her letterbox in Walkers Gate.
Dawn has sent most of them back after scrawling ‘Return to Sender’ on the envelopes.
She said the letters advise her to arrange for a safety check in a flat she lets out in Exwick, Exeter.
“I’ve been inundated with the letters,” said Dawn.
” I’ve had well over 100 and have been getting five or six most days. The most was more than 10 one day.
“They’re all reminding me to get a safety check in the flat. It’s already in hand though.
“I haven’t bothered opening all the letters, but I’ve lost track of how many I’ve had over the last month.”
Dawn has found it irritating but has been cheered up by having a laugh about it with her postie, family and friends.
She added: “It is annoying, but I’ve been joking with the postman.
“I opened the door the other day and he said, ‘I’ve got a few more for you’. We’re having a giggle about it.
“The amount of wasted paper isn’t good for the environment and the cost of postage to British Gas has mounted up. Royal Mail must be having a field day.
“I’ve been sending them back in batches without stamps, saying ‘Return to Sender’.”
Dawn did contact British Gas and was assured the flow of mail would stop, but still they kept coming.
She said: “I said, ‘Please stop. Enough is enough. Stop this madness’. But that didn’t stop them.”
A British Gas spokesperson contacted by the County Gazette has apologised and issued an assurance that there will be no more letters.
They said: “We’re sorry for any upset that our letters caused and we’re reaching out to Ms Bloomfield to reassure her that no further reminders will be sent.”
