British passports bearing the title “His Majesty” will start being issued in the name of the King this week.
For more than 70 years they have been supplied in the name of “Her Majesty”, bearing traditional blue covers since Brexit. It is the first time since 1952, and the end of the reign of George VI, that they have been issued bearing the male title.
The King does not own a passport or require one when he travels overseas because British passports are issued in the monarch’s name. He did require one as the Prince of Wales.
British passports issued in the name of the late Queen remain valid for travel.
