Halifax is set to shut its branch in Maidenhead town centre as part of a raft of nationwide closures.

The banking chain has announced its walk-in branch in Maidenhead High Street will close its doors on Wednesday, November 29.

The company said in-person transactions at its Maidenhead branch fell more than 59 per cent between 2017 and 2022.

It highlighted there are 12 free-to-use ATMs within a quarter of a mile of the closing branch and said the nearby Post Office in Nicholsons Walk offers everyday banking services for personal and business customers.

A Halifax spokesperson: “As many customers now choose to bank online or through their mobile app, visits to our Maidenhead branch have fallen over recent years.

“The local Post Office offers everyday banking, with cash also available at close by free-to-use ATMs, alongside other ways to bank such as online, phone and mobile banking services.”

The company said a community banker will visit the area following the branch’s closure to offer face-to-face banking support for those who need it.

Bank branch closures have been increasingly common in the Royal Borough over recent years.

Barclays is set to close its branch in Windsor High Street next month, following the likes of NatWest and HSBC.
