Collectors welcome Royal Mail stamps with barcode

The move to phase out stamps without a barcode is an “exciting new chapter in stamps”, according to a leading philatelist.

From Tuesday, letters and parcels sent using old-style postage stamps will incur a £1.10 fee after Royal Mail phased out the old-style designs.

Under the new rules, letters with the Queen’s profile on a plain background, with no barcode, will be treated as having insufficient postage — meaning the recipient will be asked to pay a surcharge to receive the post.
