Post office to open in Co-op more than a year since it closed

A Gloucestershire community will get a Post Office back when it re-opens in a supermarket. The St Johns Avenue Post Office in Churchdown will be moving to the new location more than a year since it closed.

The branch will be renamed Parton Road Post Office and it will restore service to the community. St Johns Post Office at 70 St Johns Avenue has been closed since June 2022, due to the resignation of the Postmaster.

There will be extended opening hours at Parton Road Post Office, which is due to open on Tuesday September 5 at 1pm. It will be alongside the retail counter in the Co-operative Food Store at number 31.

The new hours will be Monday to Saturday 8am to 8pm; Sunday: 10am to 4pm. The daily opening will provide 78 hours of Post Office service a week for convenience of customers.

Damien Haydock, Post Office Network Lead, said: “We are delighted to soon be restoring Post Office services to this area of Gloucester as we know how important a Post Office is to a community. The opening hours will also make it very convenient to visit.”

Similar Post Office products and services will be available, with Euros and Dollars On Demand Travel Money, however, excluding a comprehensive range of Travel Money, Vehicle Tax, Passport Check & Send, and On Demand Travel Insurance.

The new branch will be about 550 metres away from the previous branch. There will be a dedicated customer car park located at the rear of the store.

There will also be dedicated disabled parking bays outside the new branch. Public transport is available to and from the surrounding areas.

The Post Office is keen to restoe service to the area as soon as possible, so is going ahead with plans. The opportunity to give feedback will close on September 5.

Customers can share their views during the consultation online at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 247523. Submissions can also be made via email to comments@postoffice.co.uk, by post to Freepost YOUR COMMENTS, or by telephone 03452 66 01 15 or Textphone 03457 22 33 55.
