Southend residents may not get their post next Friday as Royal Mail has issued a warning.

The Tour of Britain cycling event is taking place in Southend on Friday, September 8.

Roads in the city identified as a rolling road closure are all junctions off Marine Parade, Eastern Esplanade, Thorpe Esplanade, Ness Road, North Shoebury Road and Poynters Lane.

Parts of Western Esplanade, Marine Parade, Pier Hill and Hartington Road/Pleasant Road will also be fully closed at certain times.

The main traffic route from Western Esplanade will be via The Leas, Chalkwell Esplanade, Chalkwell Avenue and London Road.

Residents in all of these areas may experience disruption to deliveries while these roads are closed, and other services may be affected during the event.

A Royal Mail spokesman warned: “Disruption throughout this period may be subject to change, with little or no warning.

“We will aim to work as normal, although this might not always be possible due to road closures and access around the event locations and surrounding areas.

“Customers in the affected areas have been informed of the potential disruption.”

Customer service points will remain open for residents to drop off and pick up their mail. However, if a ‘something for you card’ has not been received, mail will be unavailable for collection.

The spokesman added: “We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

“We’re working hard to deliver as comprehensive a service as possible.”

Residents can receive emails about any disruption in their postcode area by signing up to receive service alerts here.
