The post box at North Fambridge train station was taken away following a request from BT, due to plans to change a telegraph pole.
The parish council was unaware of the post box removal and didn’t know whether it was set to be reinstated or not.
This caused residents concerns as the next nearest post boxes are both more than half a mile away, on roads which lack pavements.
One alternative is to walk down the 40mph Fambridge Road to the B1010 Fambridge Road junction.
However, this access point has been branded as “unsafe” because of the lack of pavements.
The other option is walking to the post box in The Avenue in North Fambridge, which is about half a mile from the removed box at North Fambridge Station.
A spokesman for Royal Mail said: “Royal Mail was asked to remove the post box at the request of BT who wanted to change the telegraph pole to which it was attached.
“We are getting the post box reinstated.”
The spokesman said an exact date for the replacement post box cannot be confirmed.
But North Fambridge parish councillor Neil Page, said: “It could take 25 weeks to replace. Pensioners who live in the immediate vicinity of the post box who use it regularly will struggle.
“The nearest post box in the B1010 Fambridge Road has no paths on the approach to it and you have to walk in the road.
“The other one is the other end of the village, which is a long walk for many.
“The pole is going to be replaced. There’s plenty of other places to put the box – its ridiculous.
“To remove it without any consultation is ludicrous.
“We as a village could have done it for them.
“The post box at the top of the village, which is at a dangerous junction, has been there for about 40 years, the same as the other one. It isn’t practical to use – there’s forever accidents on that corner.”
