Prince William and Kate Middleton are ‘laser focused’ and ‘know what they want’ from royal life, source claims

Prince William and Princess Kate are ‘laser-focused’ and ‘know what they want from royal life’, a source close to the couple has claimed.

As they mark the first year of being the Prince and Princess of Wales, the couple have discovered what they want from the role and set a clear path to be the future of the monarchy, those around them say.

The royal couple have made sure their presence is seen in Wales and are supporting the King in his duties, while William is keen to ‘continue the great work that his father did’ with the Duchy of Cornwall.

Speaking to the Telegraph, a source said the pair ‘know what they want’ when it comes to their working lives, adding that they are ‘editing their own speeches and peppering aides with questions about every brief’.

William and Kate, alongside their children Prince George, ten, Princess Charlotte, eight, and five-year-old Prince Louis are setting out to be ‘the future of the monarchy’ the source added.

‘There’s a lot for him to get his head around, and although he and his father worked closely together, there will have been a lot of “listening and discussing” his future path,’ the source said.

‘He has this unwavering commitment to duty and service. He takes the role extremely seriously and is incredibly focused on working hard but also supporting his father as King,’ they added.

It comes as an exclusive MailOnline poll showed how Prince William is one of the most popular royals – with his support from the public rising and rising.

A substantial 41 per cent of Britons now say it should have been the Prince of Wales who took over as king one year ago, rather than Charles – a sharp rise from the 35 per cent who took that view six months ago.

Only 43 per cent are sticking with Charles, which means his lead has plunged from 15 percentage points to just two.

Meanwhile, nearly two thirds of the public want Charles and Camilla to start handing over power and responsibility to William and Catherine.

With the King’s 75th birthday approaching this autumn, it is inevitable that some are starting to look to a future beyond Charles – a future with King William and Queen Catherine in charge.

Their developing profile is no accident. The Waleses have employed a skilled media strategy using, for example, an in-house videographer to broadcast web-friendly clips as they tour the country.

More to the point, the smiles caught by the camera are genuine.

Once thought of as a diffident and angry young man, William has grown into a warm and approachable figure, whether that means cracking self-deprecating jokes with teenagers or accepting smackers from Gazza with good grace.

The affection between father and son as William paid homage was one of the most moving moments of the Coronation.

Meanwhile, royal author Phil Dampier recently told MailOnline that Kate Middleton had engineered a perfect ‘balancing act’ that saw her shine just enough to not ‘overshadow Charles and Camilla’.

‘Young people might not be so keen on the Royals, but as they get older they sometimes change their minds and Kate will be a massive influence, not just as a mother, but as a wife, fashion and social influencer in the age of Tik Tok.

‘We will see much more of them and a lot rests on their shoulders now that Harry and Meghan have left.’

An aide recently said that William is set to position himself as a ‘global statesman’ on his upcoming trip to the US.

The royal, 41, is travelling to the US to raise the profile of the Earthshot prize, his environmental award for planet-saving solutions and initiatives.

But an aide says a recent poll, which positioned him as viewed more favourably than Joe Biden and Volodymyr Zelensky, will not divert him from the task at hand.

The Gallup survey concerned 15 pre-chosen names of ‘public figures in the news’ and Americans were asked whether they thought of them favourably or otherwise.

The aide said: ‘Of course he’s aware of the poll.

‘He’s not distracted by polling — his focus is always on getting on with the job and focusing on his work.’

The aide told the Sunday Times : ‘This trip is part of his evolution as a global statesman which is incredibly important, especially since becoming Prince of Wales.

‘He and his courtiers have been thinking about how to manage that transition from Duke of Cambridge to the next king. You’ve seen a number of iterations of that, whether that’s meeting with Joe Biden in Boston or travelling to the border with Ukraine and talking about the importance of fighting for our freedoms.

‘The US is very important to him. The world’s climate movers and shakers will be in New York having conversations about the future of the planet and the prince is keen to be part of those conversations and put Earthshot front and centre.

‘He has huge ambitions for what the prize can become and is extremely focused on its legacy and impact.’
