Royal Mail postman resigns after investigation launched into ‘mistreated mail’

Royal Mail has confirmed a postman has resigned after an investigation was launched into mistreated mail. The postal service has now apologised to customers for the disruption.

Royal Mail says all the mistreated items have been repaired and will now be delivered to the addresses intended – with customers being able to make claims for missing contents in due course. It comes after a Facebook post circulating, alleging a postman was caught dropping a crate of ‘opened’ mail including birthday cards in the road.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “I can confirm we did begin to investigate, however the employee resigned. The mistreated items have been repaired for onward delivery to addressees which would facilitate claims to be made for missing contents in due course.

“We apologise for the disruption that this will have caused.”

Royal Mail says how you submit a claim depends on the service used, how and where the postage was paid for and/or where your item was posted. For more information on how to submit a claim, click here.
