Martin Lewis issues 4-day warning to stock up on common £1.10 item

Martin Lewis has issued a 4-day warning to stock up on one common £1.10 item before yet another inflation busting price hike.

The price of a first class stamp is going to increase by 14% on Sunday.

First class stamps will increase on October 2 from £1.10 to £1.25 for standard sized letters. This is an increase for the customer of 14% cent. And first class stamps for large letters will go from £1.60 to £1.95. An increase of an eyewatering 22%.

Second class stamps for standard letters will be staying at the same price of 75p (is that all…) but for large letters the price will jump from £1.15 to £1.55, an increase of a staggering 35 per cent.

If you want to use the Royal Mail’s ‘Signed For’ or ‘Special Delivery Guaranteed’ services these will also increase from the same date of October 2.

Currently, inflation is at 6%.

Today, Martin Lewis warned his followers: “The price of a first class letter stamp rises by 14% this Sunday. So if you’ll need them (even for 2027) stock up now. As long as they say 1st on them they will still be valid.””

Martin Lewis, founder of MoneySavingExpert.com, previously said: “For years, every time stamps go up in price I’ve suggested people stock up and bulk-buy in advance, as provided the stamp doesn’t have a price on it and instead just says the postage class, it’s still valid after the hike.

“This has been an effective tactic, as a first-class letter stamp is now £1.10, soon to be rising to £1.25 – in 2012 it was just 60p.”
