John Lewis names former Royal Mail director as new property boss

The John Lewis Partnership has named Martin Gafsen as its new Director of Property, replacing Chris Harris, who will step down after more than five years in the role.

He will be responsible for leading the strategy and management of the partnership’s property portfolio.

Gafsen previously served as Property & Facilities Director at the Royal Mail Group for 16 years, leading the strategy for its nationwide freehold and leasehold estate, including facilities management, construction and development.

Bérangère Michel, Executive Director of Finance at the John Lewis Partnership, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Martin to the partnership. His wealth of experience will be instrumental in helping to deliver our future growth.”

Martin Gafsen, newly appointed Director of Property at the John Lewis Partnership, added: “It’s a great privilege to join the partnership, home to two of the UK’s most loved brands.

“With an extensive and valuable property portfolio, we have an important role to play in ensuring it continues delivering value for the long term benefit of customers and partners for generations to come.”

The appointment follows a number of recent business moves by the partnership, including Dame Sharon White’s plans to step down as Chair at the end of her current five-year term.

White has initiated talks with the partnership’s board to appoint a successor. The move will make her the shortest-serving chair in the partnership’s 100-year history.
