Royal Mail urged to move a postbox because it’s on ‘dangerous’ slope | UK News

Residents say the location of a postbox is too hazardous after an elderly man recently slipped over while posting a letter.

Those living in Lynher Drive in Saltash, Cornwall, are urging Royal Mail to move their local postbox as they say it’s hazardous during rainy and icy weather.

After an 86-year-old man fell over while trying to get to the postbox, residents shared their concerns via a post on a local Facebook group.

One person said the position of the postbox makes them ‘anxious’ while another said they were worried about ‘broken bones’ because of where the postbox is located.

Locals have highlighted that while some people might not think it’s a big deal, it can be a huge problem if you have a disability which impacts mobility and balance.

One person wrote: ‘I have to say the position of this postbox makes me anxious. I find the slope a bit of a challenge so I will always use the one by the shop!

‘To some it doesn’t seem a big deal but when you have a disability which effects mobility and balance it’s not great.’

Another resident wrote: ‘Totally agree, hate walking up that slope when it’s wet, have to be so careful and when it’s icy it’s the walk of potential broken bones.’

A third added: ‘Totally agree!’ while a fourth person said: ‘I agree, it is very slippery when muddy. Moving it would be simple.’

Another said: ‘This postbox is on a dangerous slope. It should be moved.’

Royal Mail has been contacted for comment.

But Royal Mail posties have been facing some dangers of their own after they threatened to stop delivering to one couple because of their pet cat.
