Martin Lewis urges people to stock up on 75p item before April

Royal Mail will be increasing the price of its stamps again this year. Martin Lewis has now urged people to stock up on stamps to save money after April.

Because stamps never expire, you can bulk-buy stamps now and use them for years to come. If you send post regularly, this could save a fair bit of cash over the years.

The cost of first-class stamps for normal letters will go up by 8 per cent from April 2, 2024, says Royal Mail. Other stamps will also go up in price, with second-class stamps to go up by 13 per cent.

From April 2, standard first-class stamps will cost £1.35, up from £1.25. Big first-class stamps will cost £2.10, up from £1.95. Second-class stamps will cost 85p, up from 75p. But big second-class stamps will stay at £1.55, reports MSE.

Royal Mail will soon be increasing the cost of stamps

Standard letters must be no bigger than 24cm x 16.5cm x 5mm. Big letters can be up to 35.3cm x 25cm x 2.5cm.

Mr Lewis, who founded MoneySavingExpert.com, said: “For years, every time stamps go up in price I’ve suggested people stock up and bulk-buy in advance, as provided the stamp doesn’t have a price on it and instead just says the postage class, it’s still valid after the hike.

“This has been an effective tactic, as a first-class letter stamp is now £1.25, soon to be rising to £1.35 in 2012 it was just 60p. So you may as well stock up now.”
