Not all us pensioners vote Tory, thank you! | Politics

How very irritating to read in a Guardian editorial that “pensioners reliably vote Tory” (3 April). You can be assured that statement does not apply to this pair of readers in their 80s. There must be many other older readers who object to this slur; probably the same people who keep the Guardian print edition going.

The prime minister persistently refers to the European court of human rights as a “foreign court”. Does he think of the UN as a foreign organisation? The IMF as a foreign fund? Fifa as a foreign federation? “International” and “foreign” are not synonyms. Or is he knowingly and cynically peddling this nonsense to get the votes of the uninformed?

Interesting to read that “Royal Mail wants second-class letter delivery cut to every other weekday” (Report, 3 April). It’s not often that the word “cut” is used to mean “increased”, but we live in Orwellian times.

Never mind pricey National Trust scones (Letters, 4 April). Mine are meant to be eaten on the day they were baked, preferably with a flask of tea, on a bench, absorbing the beautiful Pennine vista. Heaven, and costs next to nowt.
