Inside Harry and Meghan’s ‘discreet’ £3,000-a-night presidential suite where the couple stayed during their ‘not-royal-tour’ of Nigeria

This is the luxury presidential suite where Harry and Meghan stayed on their trip to Nigeria – as officials revealed they have already invited them back later this year.

Meghan and Harry’s quasi royal tour took on a presidential feel as they were swept through Abuja and Lagos in a 14-car convoy with balaclava clad machine gun toting soldiers.

Initially the couple had been due to stay at the Transcorp Hilton but then for security and logistics – a major gathering of African leaders was taking place at the same time – they switched to the Fraser Suites.

The Duke and Duchess, their security, various Invictus Games directors and aides took over the entire top floor of the Fraser Suites in central Abuja which was their base for the trip which started on Friday.

On its website the Fraser Suites – which has partner hotels in Paris and London – describes itself as the ‘undisputed choice of business and leisure travellers with its impeccable facilities and service s and highly secure location’.

Meghan and Harry had the four bedroom £3,000 a night executive penthouse on the top floor which comes with its own living and dining area and spectacular views of the Nigerian capital.

The couple used the hotel as their base for their numerous wardrobe changes throughout the trip which started on Friday and ended on Sunday night with a charity polo match and fundraiser in Lagos.

They left Abuja early on Monday morning after flying back there from Lagos and were given a military escort.

The Fraser Suites also has a state-of-the-art gym, swimming pool, two restaurants and private gardens but Harry and Meghan ate in their suite and were not seen in public areas of the hotel.

A staff member said: ‘We were all told not speak about them staying here but now they have gone it’s ok to share.

‘They arrived here Friday morning very early and left on Monday morning very early for the British Airways flight back to London.

‘They were supposed to stay elsewhere but because of security and other events going on they came here and to be honest this is a much quieter and discreet hotel.

‘I only saw them briefly, but they seemed very happy to be here in Nigeria and everyone loves Meghan because of her Nigerian heritage.’

The Duchess sparked wild scenes from locals who were delighted after she revealed a DNA test had shown her to be 43% Nigerian and she described the west African nation as ‘my country’ at a talk she gave.

Sussex Squad groupies – fans of the Duke and Duchess – followed the couple throughout the trip, waving flags with pictures of the couple and declaring Meghan their ‘sister’.

After finding out her ancestry Meghan said she called her mum ‘because she wanted to know if she had any awareness of it’.

She added the discovery was ‘exciting’ for both of them and that it was ‘really eye opening and humbling to be able to know more about my heritage and to be able to know this is just the beginning of the discovery’.

The couple had been invited to visit by the chief of defence staff Charles Musa and Harry was keen to showcase the troubled west African nation’s part of his Invictus Games project for wounded service personnel.

While visiting military top brass she thanked them for ‘welcoming me home’ – and proudly wore traditional Nigerian clothes on the final day of the trip she had been given by dignitaries on Saturday.

It came as Nigeria’s Air Vice Marshall Abidemi Marquis, exclusively told MailOnline he had invited the couple back in November when Nigeria is due to host the African Military Games.

He said:’ Harry and Meghan’s visit was a fantastic success and they enjoyed themselves immensely as our guests, they loved the welcome they got, especially Meghan as she is 43 % Nigerian.

‘The objective of the visit, to show how Nigeria is helping it’s wounded soldiers was achieved but it was also an opportunity for them to see the country which they have never visited.

‘The warm welcome they received was obvious and you could see they were enjoying themselves always smiling and waving, I have invited them back for the African Military games later this year.

‘They hope to come, and they are more than welcome here any time, especially with Meghan being Nigerian.’

Then speaking of Harry’s visit to a military hospital in Kaduna – where he went on his own as the area is deemed dangerous AVM Marquis praised Harry for his compassion speaking to injured soldiers.

Paying an almost Mother Theresa style compliment he said:’ For the wounded and injured soldiers to see him and meet him was morale boosting for them.

‘They were encouraged by his words and for them to see and meet the Duke raised their spirits and gave them courage to face what they are going through.

‘Everyone was happy to see him and Meghan from the soldiers to the children and they brought happiness to the people they met that’s why they are welcome back anytime.’
