Future Belgian Queen returns home from Oxford for election

Crown Princess Elisabeth has been in the English city since 2021 and has been studying History and Politics at Lincoln College.

The 22-year-old is the eldest of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium’s four children and is next in line to the throne.

It was confirmed by the Belgian Royal Palace that Princess Elisabeth would be departing Oxford in favour of Harvard University in Boston.

She will move to the American institution to study a master’s degree in public policy this summer.

It appears that the royal has already left Oxford for good though as she was spotted back in her home country this weekend.

Princess Elisabeth was seen alongside her siblings voting in the 2014 Belgian federal election which took place on Sunday, June 9.

“Today 800,000 young people are voting for the first time,” said a spokesperson for the Belgian Royal Palace.

“Princess Elisabeth, Prince Gabriel, Prince Emmanuel and Princess Eleonore will also enter the voting booth for the first time.”

The country’s seats in the European parliament were split between far-right party Vlaams Belang, liberal group Mouvement Reformateur and nationalist N-VA (New Flemish Alliance).

Each party shared roughly 13 per cent of the vote with Vlaams Belang narrowly coming first, improving on their previous results.
