Nigel Farage leads furious charge as postie filmed ‘vandalising Reform leaflets’ | Politics | News

Nigel Farage has demanded that Royal Mail urgently investigates a postman who appeared to vandalise Reform UK leaflets before posting them through voters’ letterboxes.

The red-topped postie was unwittingly recorded by a doorbell camera, with footage appearing to show him taking out a marker pen and scribbling on the Reform UK leaflets before posting them through two voters’ doors.

A photo taken by one recipient showed the word “racists” scrawled on the teal leaflets, and one torn in half.

Responding to the footage this afternoon, Mr Farage said: “I hope that Royal Mail are taking this matter very seriously.”

A spokesman for the postal service insisted it “takes our role in elections very seriously”.

It pledged to “investigate any incident or allegation of election material being defaced”.

A spokesman said: “We are aware of the video and are conducting immediate inquiries. It’s our priority to ensure all candidate mail is delivered to a high level of service.”

However, a Reform UK spokesman told the Express: “This video and picture appear to show blatant criminal damage by a Royal Mail employee in an attempt to interfere with the democratic process.

“The Royal Mail should have no problem identifying him and taking disciplinary action and we would expect the police to show some interest as well.”

The footage sparked widespread outrage on social media, with demands for the postman to be sacked.

One business owner with a Royal Mail account tweeted: “I am shocked at this alleged member of staff defacing leaflets on a service you offer.”

Another user blasted: “Royal Mail caught subverting the democratic process. Just when you think it couldn’t get worse for them.”

A third user, Toby-Dan Lyeach, said that as a Royal Mail employee himself “this is a very, very serious offence”.

The news comes as the ongoing row about Mr Farage and Ukraine appeared to damage Reform UK in the latest election poll this afternoon.

JL Partners found Reform dipping by three points to 15 percent, while the Conservatives have increased by two percent to 25 percent.

Labour remains stable on 41 percent, while the Liberal Democrats are up two percent to 11 percent.

This morning Mr Farage told the Express that Britain must cut off payments to France if it continues shadowing migrants across the Channel.

He said: “We’ve got to say to the French that this is a completely unacceptable practice. You are literally aiding and abetting the criminal gangs. Certainly, no more money.”

“Why have we given them [the money]? How has this Conservative Government been so bad at negotiating? We’ve given them more and more and more whilst allowing this practice to continue.”

Asked if this should mean Britain should cut off payments to Paris, Mr Farage said: “Yes, just tell them we won’t accept people even if they are escorted by the French navy.

“We just won’t do it. And if you do that [escorting], we will take them back to you.

“You’re acting in a way that is against the law of the sea. We will correct that.”
