Fife Council moves to help postal voters ahead of General Election

The distribution of postal votes has been hit by delays across the country but the Royal Mail has confirmed that all packs should be delivered today (Friday) or tomorrow (Saturday).

Voters who have yet to receive their postal votes, and will not be at home next week, can go to Fife House in Glenrothes and have their voting pack re-issued or hand them in.

A private booth will be set up for those wishing to complete their postal vote there and then.

This will not be a polling station however voters will be able to complete their postal vote in private before putting it in the Royal Mail post box outside Fife House.

Voters are able to come along between 9am and 4pm with photo ID to get their replacement pack issued and are being warned that there could be forced to wait if the service is busy.

Fife Council say they are prioritising in person replacement packs for those who will not be at home next week. If you will be at home next week, they are asking voters to wait for delivery and only contact them early next week if you are still without your pack.

This can be done by emailing postals@fife.gov.uk in the first instance or calling the helpline on 03451 55 55 11.

Returning Officer for Fife Ken Gourlay said: “We are doing everything we can to make sure that you receive your postal vote in time for the election.

“As you will be aware, there have been national issues with the printing and delivery of some postal votes but the printers and Royal Mail are doing everything they can to ensure that all postal packs are delivered by Monday 1 July.

“However we appreciate that voters are concerned and that’s why we’re opening Fife House tomorrow. Please only attend if you haven’t received your postal vote and you’re going on holiday or won’t be at home next week.

“I’d encourage anyone who has already received their postal vote to return it as soon as possible, through Royal Mail.”
