Harpenden Post Office to re-open following access issues

The branch, part of the WHSmiths at 29 High Street, suspended Royal Mail collections and deliveries on July 16, although other delivery services remained operational.

A sign posted outside the shop the following day informed disappointed customers that Royal Mail services would be unavailable “until further notice”, citing “access issues”.

Some had suggested the neighbouring Sainsbury’s shop was to blame for cutting off access, with a spokesperson for the supermarket giant telling the Herts Ad that “we are working with our neighbours to ensure that everyone can safely access the service yard”.

Now, after a week of complaints, including from local politicians, the branch is set to re-open tomorrow (July 25), with the issues seemingly resolved.

A Post Office spokesperson told the Herts Ad: “We are pleased to announce that Royal Mail services at Harpenden Post Office will be reinstated tomorrow (25/7).

“Suitable access to the premises for Royal Mail vehicles has been agreed.”
