Petition to save East Park Post Office launched

Karl Turner MP and local Southcoates Ward Councillors have launched a petition to save the East Park Post Office today.

The Post Office, which is a separate organisation from Royal Mail, is located within Morrisons on Holderness Road. Confirming the closure to Hull Live two days ago, the Post Office said it had chosen not to replace a temporary operator who had resigned, citing a “challenging economic climate”.

A Post Office spokesperson said: “East Park Post Office has been run on our behalf by a temporary operator who has resigned. The branch will be closing on 2 October at 5.30pm.

“In a very challenging economic climate Post Office has undertaken a comprehensive review of the network at a very detailed, local level, analysing customer demand and accessibility of Post Office products and services.

“Consequently, with finite funding and resources that need to be allocated to deliver maximum benefit for all our customers. At this time, therefore, we are not looking to replace East Park Post Office.”

Labour Party MP Karl Turner is the Member of Parliament for Hull East

Karl Turner, Labour Party MP for Hull East, said: “The Post Office within Morrisons is an essential service for our community. The announcement of its closure has caused great concern among residents. This branch is not just a place to send mail; it is a hub for the community, providing essential services that many people depend on.”

In response to the closure announcement, Karl Turner MP has launched a petition to demonstrate the strong opposition within the community and to urge Post Office Ltd and other involved organisations to “reconsider their decision.”

“We need to show the strength of feeling in our community and make sure that every effort is made to keep this popular local branch open,” Mr Turner added.

“Your support is crucial in our fight to save the East Park Post Office. Please sign our petition today and help us keep this vital service in our community,” said a spokesperson for Southcoates Ward Councillors.
