Royal family member to read CBeebies bedtime story next week

A member of the Royal Family will read a CBeebies bedtime story next week for World Sight Day.

The Duchess of Edinburgh will stress the importance of valuing our eyesight when she reads Specs For Rex by Yasmeen Ismail on October 10 for the BBC children’s channel.

Sophie, who is married to Prince Edward, will narrate the storybook, which follows a young lion hesitant about wearing his glasses to school.

Ahead of her reading, she said: “Millions of us need glasses to see the world clearly. World Sight Day is a reminder to all of us to take care of our eyes, whether we need glasses or not. Our eyes are precious, and our sight is something to cherish and look after. So, let’s remember to take care of our eyes this World Sight Day.”

Last year, in 2022, the Princess of Wales featured on CBeebies Bedtime Stories, reading ‘The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark’ by Jill Tomlinson.

High-profile personalities like Dolly Parton, Harry Styles, Dave Grohl, Tom Hardy, and Stephen Fry have also graced the CBeebies storytelling session.

Marking another significant moment, Paralympic cyclist Lora Fachie presented the first-ever braille episode for World Sight Day in 2022, assisted by her guide dog Tai.
