A man has been charged with arson after “items were set alight and thrown into a property” in Grimsby.
Crews from Humberside Fire and Rescue were called to Rutland Street shortly after 8pm on Tuesday (October 8), following reports of a rubbish fire that had spread to a property. The incident was labelled as a “deliberate ignition”.
Humberside Police say a 34-year-old man has now been charged with arson in connection with the incident. Sammy Alzalam, of Rutland Street, was due to appear at Grimsby Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday).
A Humberside Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “We received a call at 8:07pm on 8 October 2024, to a rubbish fire near a residential property on Rutland Street, Grimsby.
“Crews arrived promptly and swiftly extinguished the fire, which had started to spread to the property. The incident has been labelled as a deliberate ignition and is now with police.”
