David Sullivan is unhappy with his position at West Ham amid rumours of a possible takeover, according to the club’s former scout.
Mick Brown, who worked as a senior scout at the London Stadium until David Moyes’ departure in the summer, exclusively told Football Insider that a takeover is “certainly” on the cards, with the Czech owners considering a full purchase.
This comes after former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider that “discussions are already happening” about new ownership at the London Stadium.
The current ownership model at West Ham is made up of four major investors: Daniel Kretinsky, David Sullivan, the Gold Family and Albert ‘Tripp’ Smith.
Previous reports have linked Kretinsky, who currently holds a 27% stake in the club, with a full-scale takeover, with his initial deal including an option to take full control of the club at a set price.
However, the Czech billionaire is yet to make such a move and remains locked in a battle to take control of Royal Mail in the UK worth £3.6billion.
Brown has now revealed that he is aware of interest from the Czech part-owner, whose influence is already said to be substantial, but the situation remains complicated.
West Ham takeover update emerges after David Sullivan twist
Wyness also told Football Insider that Kretinsky’s interest in a full takeover at the London Stadium has dropped somewhat after their poor start to the Premier League season.
Now, Brown, who remains well-connected at the London Stadium after his spell there and has worked for clubs undergoing takeover talks in the past, explained that Sullivan could look to sell up amid talk of a complete change to the ownership structure.
Brown, who worked closely with the owners at West Ham and remains well-connected at the club, insisted that
“I never got the impression that Sullivan is happy with his role at the club,” he told Football Insider.
“And everybody knows what Karren Brady is like.
“The Czech owners are quite influential, but I don’t know their situation.
“They were obviously instrumental in signing Soucek and Coufal, and I know their influence goes a long way with the decision-making.
“I’m told that they’re very much into West Ham. They were certainly interested in a full takeover at one stage, so that might still be under consideration.
“I don’t think West Ham realise how fortunate they are to play at a 60,000-seater stadium in London.
“They should endeavour to make the best of that opportunity and I’m not sure that they have. Maybe new owners will look to do that.”
