ITV confirms much-loved drama returning with third series

One of ITV’s most popular dramas is returning. The channel has revealed that Vicky McClure’s hit crime drama Trigger Point will return for a third season.

Following the success of season two, which drew in an average of 8.1m viewers, the show will once again be back on screens. Season two also achieved over 30m streams on ITVX and was the second most-watched drama on ITV1 this year, coming in behind Mr Bates vs The Post Office.

In season three, McClure will reprise her role as bomb disposal operative Lana Washington, as she and her team investigate a bomb threat that “soon reveals itself to be the start of a sinister vendetta”. The official synopsis explains: “Someone is targeting individuals, and demanding revenge. Working alongside the Police Counterterrorism Unit, the Bomb Disposal Squad race against time to find the bomber before they claim their next victim.”

Returning cast members for season three include Eric Shango as Danny, Nabil Elouahabi as Hassan Rahim, Natalie Simpson as DS Helen Morgan, and Maanuv Thiara as DI Amar Batra. McClure expressed her excitement about the renewal, saying: “Trigger Point is back! We’re all so excited to get going.

“Having had such a positive response to the previous two series, we want to make the next series even more exciting, keep everyone on the edge of their seats whilst getting to know even more about the brilliant characters in the show.”

“Lana is such a complex character to play. It’s a joy for an actor to play a role with as many layers as Lana.”

Polly Hill, ITV’s head of drama, chimed in: “I am delighted that Trigger Point will be returning for a third series and Vicky McClure will be reprising her role as Lana Washington. The whole cast are amazing in this series and HTM are a great team to work with.

“There’s going to be lots more twists and turns and of course explosions in this third series, viewers are going to love it! “.

Trigger Point seasons 1-2 are currently available on ITVX. Series 1 can now be purchased on DVD and Blu-ray.
