BANGKOK, Thailand – Mark your calendar for 27 October, when Thai and international audiences will witness a breathtaking showcase of cherished tradition along Chao Phraya River as the Royal Barge Procession celebrates the 6th Cycle Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Rama X. This grand event also includes the Royal Kathina (robe offering) ceremony, which blends unique Buddhist and royal elements.
The Royal Thai Police have announced that there will be no road closures during the Royal Barge Procession on 27 October, but some roads will be arranged as one-way traffic, namely Chakraphong Road, Chao Fah Road, Phra Athit Road, and Phra Sumen Road, starting from 12.00 hr. Motorists should plan their journey accordingly.
There are fourteen locations where the public can view the procession, free of charge:
(1) On the riverside of the Bank of Thailand;
(2) Under Rama VIII Bridge (Bank of Thailand Learning Center);
(3) Under Rama VIII Bridge (Thon Buri side);
(4) Santichaiprakan Park;
(5) Under Phra Pin Klao Bridge;
(6) 60th Anniversary of Thammasat patio, Thammasat University, Tha Prachan campus;
(7) Sukkapab Park, Siriraj Hospital;
(8) Pridi Banomyong patio, Thammasat University, Tha Prachan campus;
(9) Sathan Phimuk Garden, Siriraj Hospital;
(10) Tha Chang;
(11) Wat Rakhangkhositaram;
(12) Tha Tien;
(13) Wat Pho Pier; and
(14) Wat Arun (The Temple of Dawn).
