Royal Mail hiring Scottish island posties with no experience needed

The Royal Mail is currently advertising job openings on three Scottish islands.

The British postal service is looking to hire postpeople on the Isle of Skye, the Isle of Mull, and Islay. The positions will be based in the towns of Portree, Tobermory, and Port Ellen respectively.

For anyone who has ever dreamed of starting over and living a more simple and peaceful life, a postperson job off the mainland could be perfect. The jobs would allow you to soak in the scenery of three of Scotland’s most beautiful islands as you deliver mail to the local community.

All three of postie jobs will be on a permanent contract, working five days a week, with salaries paid monthly at an hourly rate of £12.54per hour. The Port Ellen position will see the successful applicant work 37 hours per week, while the other two roles will involve 30 hours a week.

As well as being able to work in idyllic surroundings, benefits of the jobs include 22.5 days of holiday a year, overtime paid at 1.25x the normal hourly rate, and enhanced maternity pay, paternity leave, and adoption leave. The successful applicants will also receive numerous discounts, such as high street vouchers and savings on beauty products and gym membership.

No previous experience is required to apply for the roles. However, a UK manual driving licence with no more than six penalty points is crucial.

If you have always wanted to move to Skye, this could be your opportunity

According to the job descriptions, those who apply must be “upbeat, independent and self-motivated”, as well as organised and punctual. Applicants should also be comfortable walking for sustained periods in any weather and have “a strong sense of community”.

The Royal Mail job listings read: “Each year, we make billions of deliveries possible. Whatever the weather, come rain or shine, we show up.

“Because for us, it’s personal. For every person, from every walk of life, we deliver.

“From exam results and tax returns, to wedding invites or online purchases. You could be part of it.”

More information about the positions can be found on the HiJOBS website. Meanwhile, as reported by the Daily Record, NHS Scotland is currently looking for Scots to relocate to Orkney.
