Why fans are ‘disappointed’ for Queen Mary after telling photos from her royal visit to Germany emerge

Queen Mary’s fans have been left disappointed after seeing a photo of their favourite royal in Germany last week.

The 52-year-old stood gracefully beside Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria, 47, and Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, 51, for the 25th anniversary of the Nordic embassy.

Princess Victoria and Princess Mette-Marit both wore dainty bow-shaped brooches for the occasion. The bow represents the ‘Special Class’ German Grand Cross of the Order of Merit, an honour Queen Mary is yet to receive.

Fans hoped the popular monarch would be given the bow in October, when she and King Frederik made their way to Germany as part of the accession tour.

But that was not the case, and she will have to wait for another state visit to Germany to be able to receive the prize.

It is awarded for special achievements in political, economic, cultural, intellectual or honorary fields, but the queen is not guaranteed to get one.

The special class edition of the order of the merit is only available to heads of state and their partners.

So far just 212 have been given the honour.

As does Crown Princess Victoria

Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Crown Princess Victoria have both been given Germany’s highest honour, Queen Mary has not

Queen Mary isn’t the only popular royal waiting patiently for her time.

King Frederik doesn’t have the honour either, neither does Crown Princess Victoria’s husband, Crown Prince Daniel.

Queen Mary has earned a long list of honours since marrying into the royal family.

Danish honours include include being Knight of the Order of the Elephant, Dame of the Royal Family Decoration of King Frederick X, Dame of the Royal Family Decoration of Queen Margrethe II and Recipient of the Homeguard Medal of Merit.

Most recently she became Commander of the order of the Dannebrog, which she was awarded on May 26.

She has international honours as well including the Grand Cross of the Order of the Crown in Belgium, Member 1st Class of the Order of Stara Planina in Bulgaria and Commander Grand Cross of the Order of the White Rose of Finland.
