Trip to Lapland ‘hidden’ at Newcastle Christmas Market as search begins for dream holiday

There is an extra incentive to take a trip to this year’s Newcastle Christmas Market,. as a trip of a lifetime to Lapland is being given away. and all you have to do is buy one item.

Visitors have been flocking to the Market since it opened in the city centre in the middle of November, with this year’s event taking over three separate areas – Monument, Grey Street and Old Eldon Square. Grey’s Monument has been transformed into the North Pole, with being home to a host of stunning igloos that can he hired for festive tipples with friends and family, while just down the road, as well as there being stalls selling sought after foods like Crumble Pots and Yorkshire Pudding Wraps, Moosenwirt has made a comeback for its third year and Old Eldon Square is where you’ll find a Family Village, including a stage for live entertainment and Santa’s Storytime.

There are traders selling an array of goods this year and there is now one specific item everyone wants to get their hands on – a Newcastle Christmas Market mug and that’s because one of the mugs will win its owner a holiday to Lapland. EVNT Inspirations – the company behind the new Christmas Village, has teamed up with Hays Travel, for the prize which is worth around £3000 and will see the winning family fly out from Teesside Airport on December 2025 to Lapland and enjoy a sleigh ride through the woods before coming face to face with Father Christmas himself.

Only one of the £5 mugs has a special gold mark which will only become visible when the contents have been drunk, so anyone who buys one needs to keep a close eye on the mug once they’ve finished their first drink from it.

The mugs are are available to buy from Moosenwirt, North Pole and at the Newcastle’s Christmas Village, along with the drinks “huttes” at Grainger Street and the booking office at Old Eldon Square.
