The new schedule currently reduces services between Guernsey and Jersey to once a week and turns around the schedule, so that the slower freight boat will arrive from the UK at 6am each day, rather than in the late afternoon.
Steve Lawrence, head of transport and logistics at Guernsey Post, said the new ferry schedule was less favourable than in the past.
‘It presents challenges in achieving same-day delivery for the volume of items that will be arriving on the same day, at the same time,’ he said.
‘We are actively consulting with the States, freight operators, Condor, and other suppliers of the ferry services to address these issues and find a suitable way forward.’
It has been a busy year for the postal logistics team, after Royal Mail confirmed it would stop making financial contributions to the mail plane from spring next year.
Mr Lawrence said Guernsey Post was still looking at options.
‘While specific details about our air connectivity remain confidential, I can confirm that we are in advanced discussions to maintain an air solution when Royal Mail withdraws its aircraft in April 2025,’ he said.
‘We are confident that this replacement air solution will be operational by then, ensuring continuity and reliability of our service.’
