Red letter day for Royal Mail staff as Labour MPs visit

Royal Mail workers across the Indie patch got a festive visit from their Labour MP.

Hertford and Stortford MP Josh Dean showed his support for staff at Bishop’s Stortford’s delivery office on Friday, December 6.

He said on Facebook: “It was a pleasure to visit the Royal Mail delivery office in Bishop’s Stortford this morning to meet the hardworking team during their busiest season.

“Great to find out more about the hard work they do behind the scenes and thank them for keeping us connected to friends and loved ones at Christmas and all year round.”

His Harlow neighbour Chris Vince, whose constituency includes Matching, Sheering village, lower Sheering, Great and Little Hallingbury, Hatfield Broak Oak and Hatfield Heath, also visited Royal Mail on Friday to see “the ins and outs of their service” and “talk to them about their winter operation”.

North East Hertfordshire MP Chris Hinchliff, whose constituency includes Little Hadham, The Pelhams, Braughing, Standon and Buntingford, visited postal workers at Royston Delivery Office.

Christmas is Royal Mail’s busiest period, with around double the normal volume of letters and parcels processed. Across the UK, the business has recruited 16,000 temporary workers to help its 85,000 posties sort the additional mail and an increasing number of parcels expected over the festive period. Almost 4,000 new vans, trucks and trailers are being added to the fleet in time for Christmas.

Mr Hinchliff said: “Royal Mail remains an iconic part of Christmas in the UK – it wouldn’t be the same without our posties! Seeing how the operation works on the inside has given me a reinforced appreciation for the tireless work that they do.”
