The visit gave Douglas McAllister MP an insight into the increased workload faced by postal workers during the festive season.
Christmas is Royal Mail’s busiest time, with the volume of letters and parcels doubling.
Mr McAllister, West Dunbartonshire MP, spoke with customer operations manager Paul McBryan about Royal Mail’s strategy to make sending and receiving parcels more convenient over the festive period.
This includes services like Parcel Collect, where posties pick up parcels from customers’ doorsteps, and offer more ways to drop off parcels at convenient times and locations.
Mr McAllister said: “Royal Mail is an iconic part of Christmas in the UK – it wouldn’t be the same without our posties.
“I’ve always had a great appreciation for what they do, but even more so after seeing how the operation works on the inside.”
Royal Mail has already rolled out more than 5000 parcel points this year, including at Collect+ stores and its growing number of parcel lockers.
Clydebank Delivery Office has three new staff and two extra vehicles for the Christmas period to meet the increased demand for deliveries.
Paul said: “It was great to have Douglas visit our delivery office and to show him how we are gearing up for our peak period.
“We are pulling out all the stops to deliver Christmas for our customers.”
