King Charles gives royal fans unique insight into Christmas Day speech in rare video | Royal | News

King Charles’ Christmas speech is less than 24 hours away and a teaser clip of this year’s annual broadcast has been released on social media.

It will be the King’s third speech since he acceded to the throne in 2022, with the speech being a huge part of Christmas tradition for many Brits.

In the brief, 14-second-long clip, the monarch can be seen adjusting his tie and preparing to speak, as the camera pans over the script for the broadcast – but not for long enough to allow royal fans to see what the King will say.

In the video, King Charles wears a navy suit and can be seen standing in Fitzrovia Chapel in central London.

A producer or cameraman can be heard asking, “Can we just have complete quiet on the floor please,” while the King stands in front of a teleprompter.

For the last 18 years, the speech has been filmed at a royal residence, but this year, tradition has been broken.

The King decided to film the message at an external location, which a royal source said demonstrates his long-held desire to “reach out into communities rather than bringing them into him”.

As reported, it is understood that the King will use the Christmas message to reflect on community cohesion, praising how the nation came together following the summer riots.

This year has also been a difficult time for the Royal Family, and the King is expected to reflect on the cancer diagnoses received by both him and his daughter-in-law, the Princess of Wales.

King Charles was reportedly “enchanted” by the chapel, which he had not visited prior to filming the speech there.

In a post on X shared by the Royal Family’s official X account, the message accompanying the clip read: “Lights. Camera. Action!

“The annual Christmas Day tradition – the Sovereign’s Christmas Broadcast – is almost here. Where will you be watching?

“The broadcast will be available from 15:00GMT on Christmas Day on:

“The Royal Family Channel on YouTube. @SKYNews @ITV and @BBCOne in the UK. If you live outside the UK, check your national broadcaster’s schedule.”

The chapel was designed by John Loughborough Pearson, the incredible architect behind buildings such as Truro Cathedral and Westminster Hall.

The first service was held in the chapel on Christmas Day 1891, with an official opening ceremony in June 1892.
